NEUROTIC BEHAVIOR

Everyone has some neurotic tendencies.

Unstable, unbalanced, or maladjusted.

Don’t like to drive through tunnels?
Does the drain in your shower need to be in a certain place for you to enter?
Do you have a habit of cutting your banana into seven slices before putting it on your cereal?

These things may irritate those around you, but they do not interfere with your life.

Maybe you’re like Sam.

Every night, Sam went to bed at 11:30 with the TV on – loud. He needed the TV on to sleep. The noise was comforting, and he claimed the images on the screen helped him not feel so lonely.

However, Sam’s wife could not sleep with the television on. Often, she would go to another room to sleep, leaving her husband alone with his TV, which Sam was fine with… for the most part.

Sleeping is difficult.

Sam often flip-flops in bed like a fish out of water. Thoughts about his sales job and questioning if he could make his numbers to be the top salesman that quarter keeps him up.

Finally, the alarm goes off, and Sam jumps out of bed. He turns off the TV and heads for breakfast. Orange juice with a little vodka wakes him up to start the day.

Day after day, this routine continued.

Until one day, Sam started dragging himself out of bed and never left the breakfast table. He just drank.

He hit rock bottom, angry at his boss, angry at his wife, and feeling worthless.

Bad habits throughout Sam’s life kept him out of balance and interfered with his everyday life.

Sam was going down a path that would surely lead to greater instability.

You don’t have to be like Sam.

First, you need to identify and own up to the behaviors that get in your way and make you your own worst enemy. Second, we will work on understanding the triggers that cause you to choose behaviors that get in your way. And third, we will identify through your dreams and fantasies what is driving you in directions that are on the wrong side of the road to a more peaceful, loving, and happy life.
